Gorillas expands into the USA

A year ago, the name Gorillas was almost unknown, but today the start-up is unicorn and an integral part of the German food delivery market. Now the Berlin-based company is launching its service in the United States.
Gorillas has lost management staff in recent months, but that hasn't stopped the Berlin start-up for long: Now the food delivery service is venturing across the pond and plans to launch in New York at the end of this month. This will put it up against US competitors such as Doordash and Uber.
The start is in Brooklyn, but Gorillas wants to expand quickly from there into other boroughs. A spokesperson told Business Insider that the service could also be launched on the East, Central and West coasts of the US by the end of the summer.
Gorillas raised 290 million US dollars in March and is already preparing its next round of financing. Earlier this year, the company became a unicorn. Gorillas is expanding rapidly into more and more European countries. The service is set to be available in Italy this month, and Gorillas can currently be found in the Netherlands, France, the UK and Germany.
The start-up was founded in 2020 by Kagan Sümer and Jörg Kattner, who left at the beginning of the year. In addition, COO Felix Chrobog only left the start-up this May. Unlike its competitors, the company works with its own fleet of bike couriers and not with so-called gig workers who move from job to job.
