Integral aims to use AI to address the shortage of skilled workers in the tax consulting industry. A Series A funding round of 18 million euros is now set to further accelerate automation.

Berlin-based fintech company Integral has closed a Series A funding round totaling 18 million euros. The round was led by Mosaic Ventures and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. Existing investors Cherry Ventures, General Catalyst, and Puzzle Ventures are also participating again. This brings the total funding for the company—founded less than two years ago—to more than 30 million euros. Integral aims to use AI agents to automate accounting, taxes, and payroll for small and medium-sized businesses.

AI agents handle preparatory work

In doing so, Integral takes a different approach than traditional software providers for tax advisors and auditors. Instead of simply providing firms with an additional tool, the company combines the technology with the actual service. Integral’s AI agents handle repetitive tasks and prepare, among other things, bookkeeping, payroll, and tax returns. Licensed professionals then review the results and take responsibility for final approval.

To do this, the software automatically matches receipts to bank transactions, for example, and generates suggested journal entries based on them. Corrections made by tax experts are then fed back into the system to continuously improve the platform’s results. According to the company, the AI agents are already handling day-to-day bookkeeping for more than half of its clients.

Integral Tax Doubles the Number of Clients Served Per Employee

The company owns Integral Tax, a licensed auditing firm that serves small and medium-sized businesses throughout Germany using Integral’s technology. Since the beginning of the year, the number of clients that one employee can serve per month has doubled, the company reports.

AI agents handle the repetitive work, while licensed professionals take responsibility for each result.

Lukas Zörner, CEO and Co-Founder of Integral

Especially in light of the shortage of skilled professionals in tax consulting, this is intended to enable a single expert to serve significantly more companies. CEO and co-founder Lukas Zörner sees this as the key difference from a purely software-based model. Integral does not want to develop the next tool for tax advisors, but rather to reorganize the service itself with the help of AI.

Reid Hoffman Invests in German Tax AI Model

With LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, Integral has gained a prominent new investor. Hoffman sees the model as an example of how AI can increase the productivity of skilled professionals without completely replacing human responsibility. He notes that this is particularly relevant in heavily regulated and trust-dependent industries.

Alongside Hoffman, Mosaic Ventures is leading the round. Existing investors Cherry Ventures, General Catalyst, and Puzzle Ventures are also reinvesting. For Integral, this Series A round marks yet another major funding round in a short period of time. In total, the Berlin-based company has raised more than 30 million euros in capital since its founding.

18 million euros for further automation

The new capital is intended primarily to fund the further development of the company’s own AI agents. Integral aims to increasingly automate the entire process chain. In the future, even more complex accounting and tax processes are to be handled to a greater extent by the agents.

At the same time, the company is expanding its teams in the areas of AI development, sales, and tax expertise. The funding will also be used to bolster marketing and commercial growth. Integral is thus positioning itself as part of a new generation of so-called AI-native service companies. The idea is not only to make existing services more efficient through software, but to organize their workflows around AI from the very beginning.

Tax consulting, in particular, offers an interesting test case for this. Many work steps are structured and repetitive; at the same time, there are high regulatory requirements, and final responsibility cannot simply be delegated to an AI system.
