Lumaly raises seven-figure sum five months after seed round

In February, Lumaly closed its seed round, and now the Berliners are announcing their next funding round for a seven-figure sum. But that's not all: A next round is planned for autumn.

Following in the footsteps of the American provider Honey, which belongs to Paypal, the Berlin start-up Lumaly is taking the next step: After a seed funding round in February, the start-up has raised a seven-figure sum. The capital providers Dutch Founders Fund from Amsterdam and FJ Labs from New York are also involved. In addition, business angels such as serial founder and investor Roman Kirsch, who was also involved in the seed round. Alexander Hars from Alva, Finanzcheck.de founder Moritz Thiele, Martin Eggert from David+Martin and Matthias Wilrich, who founded the online retailer Lesara together with Kirsch, also participated.

Lumaly will use the money to drive growth and expand its team, with a Series A funding round planned as early as this fall. "Through additional planned features, we will fundamentally change the shopping experience of users. This will also clearly set Lumaly apart from competitors internationally," says founder Noah Fischer. He founded the start-up with Marcel Schwarz in February 2020, clearly following the example of the American company Honey, whose offering the two are establishing in Germany. Honey only recently launched its offering in Germany, making the role model a direct competitor of the Berliners.

The Lumaly platform shows users coupons and discounts as a browser extension when shopping, in return for which the start-up receives a commission. In addition, there is a points system with which Lumaly returns benefits to users. For every 1,000 points collected, the company plants a tree in the rainforest. Currently, a six-digit number of customers use the offer. In February, Lumaly was still talking about 20,000 users.
