Mass layoffs at Tier Mobility

The e-scooter provider is apparently putting 180 employees out the door. It thus joins a whole series of start-ups that are resorting to layoffs in the crisis.
E-scooter start-up Tier Mobility is apparently laying off 180 employees. The startup made the announcement on Tuesday, bringing the next wave of shock layoffs to the startup sector. After big companies like Klarna and competitors like Bird, another big player in the startup scene (€660 million funding, $2 billion valuation) has now joined the ranks of mass layoffs.
According to Tier Mobility, the 180 employees make up around 16 percent of the workforce. The startup justifies the layoffs by saying, "Unfortunately, the combination of the tremendous external challenges currently facing the technology sector and the tightening of the funding market means that we have come to the difficult conclusion that we need to make more fundamental changes to the company to ensure its long-term future."
In this regard, the layoffs directly reflect the decision to "focus projects to put TIER on a sounder financial footing so that we can continue our mission to change mobility for the better," it said. Tier Mobility says employees have already been notified of their layoffs. In the "vast majority of cases," employees were informed by team leaders in 1-2-1 meetings, CEO Lawrence Leuschner wrote in a statement.
