Disney CEO wants employees back in the office four days a week

Bob Iger wants to see most of the workforce back in the office by March first. The move is severe even for tech companies.

The pandemic is coming to an end, and with it the home office in some companies. At least if one looks to the USA to the mouse company Disney. There, CEO Bob Iger, who returned in November, sent an e-mail to his employees who had previously worked as hybrid employees, in which he decreed four mandatory office days starting in March. This reports CNBC.

In the Mail, Iger justifies the move by citing the relevance of face-to-face collaboration. "Creativity is the heart and soul of Disney," Iger writes in the Mail. According to the Mail, it is especially important in a creative business to be physically close to each other in order to develop new ideas. Compared with many other large American companies, the move is rigorous. At Apple, for example, there are only three mandatory office days. In contrast, however, Elon Musk at Twitter also imposed five office days for employees.

The move by Disney's new CEO comes in difficult times for the tradition-rich company. The share price fell by 40 percent last year, leaving the group valued at around $174 billion. Iger wants to restructure the Content & Distribution department in particular, but also rethink the entire organizational structure. The high costs of the company's own streaming service Disney+ and a lack of advertising revenue are causing problems for many traditional film and television companies. Iger's goal is to get the financial situation under control and, in parallel, to find a suitable successor.
