Start-ups are on the rise in the construction and real estate industry, actively working on sustainable solutions to simplify the complex processes of building. A recent publication by BEFIVE offers insights into German start-ups that are contributing to the industry's circular economy.

The new Start-up Radar by BEFIVE, the innovation consultancy and cooperation platform of the UnternehmerTUM innovation and start-up center, presents 55 start-ups that are changing the construction and real estate industry in a sustainable way. These start-ups focus on five key areas: new sustainable materials, circular building elements, extending the lifespan of properties, more efficient use of resources and "product-as-a-service" business models.

Focus on sustainability and innovation

Most of these start-ups have only recently emerged, indicating the growing interest in sustainability in the construction industry. Through innovative approaches such as environmentally friendly building materials, modular building elements and digital platforms that extend the life cycle of buildings, these start-ups offer new perspectives for the entire industry.

Future trends and key areas

The radar highlights a trend towards "circular construction elements" - i.e. start-ups that focus on modular and reusable construction elements. Sustainable new materials are also experiencing an upswing, as companies are increasingly looking for environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional building materials. Digitalization is playing a central role in the transformation of the industry.

The importance of sustainability

Dr. Manuel Götzendörfer, Managing Director of BEFIVE, underlines the growing relevance of sustainability in the construction and real estate industry. He predicts an increase in start-ups dedicated to this topic in order to reduce the industry's ecological footprint.

As an innovation consultancy and cooperation platform, BEFIVE is actively shaping the future of the construction and operation of buildings and infrastructure. Through collaboration between established companies, start-ups, talents and other stakeholders, innovative solutions are developed to transform the industry in a sustainable way. As part of UnternehmerTUM, BEFIVE draws on an extensive network of companies, experts and researchers.
