Scania and sennder have launched the JUNA joint venture to electrify European road logistics. With an innovative pay-per-use model and 5,000 electric trucks by 2030, the logistics industry will become more sustainable.

Berlin, Södertälje - Scania, an international provider of transportation solutions, and sennder Technologies, a digital freight forwarding company, have announced the establishment of a joint venture called JUNA GmbH. The joint venture has started operations in Germany and aims to introduce electric trucks on a large scale to make the logistics industry more sustainable.

This is a pivotal moment for our industry and we are delighted to be working with Scania to build a joint venture that will drive the widespread adoption of electric trucks.

David Nothacker, CEO of sennder

JUNA, headquartered in Berlin, is introducing a pay-per-use model for electric trucks to facilitate access to electric trucks for transportation companies. The model offers financial benefits by eliminating high acquisition costs and residual values, making the switch to electric trucks more attractive.

5,000 electric trucks by 2030

The joint venture plans to deploy a total of 5,000 electric trucks by 2030 to support the transition to sustainable transportation. A pilot program has already successfully deployed an electric truck and achieved a reduction in CO2 emissions. David Nothacker, CEO of sennder, emphasizes the importance of the project and explains that the combination of JUNA's pay-per-use offer and sennder's capacity utilization will facilitate the transition to electric trucks.

The joint venture was agreed in May 2023 and received the necessary approval from the European Commission. JUNA aims to drive the electrification of European road logistics and meet the demand for low-emission transportation. Gustaf Sundell, Executive Vice President and Head of Ventures and New Business at Scania, is delighted with the collaboration and emphasizes that JUNA will play an important role in promoting a sustainable transport system.
