Synthesia secures 180 million US dollars in Series D

Synthesia becomes the UK's most valuable generative AI media company: 60,000 companies worldwide, including 60% of the Fortune 100, use its AI-powered video communications platform
London, January 15, 2025 - Synthesia, the UK's leading AI-powered video communications company, has successfully closed its Series D funding round with $180 million. The round was led by NEA, with participation from new investors including WiL, Atlassian Ventures and PSP Growth, as well as existing investors including GV, MMC Ventures and FirstMark.
Leading role in generative AI and corporate video
Synthesia, founded in 2017, is now the largest generative AI media company in the UK and one of the major global players in AI-powered video creation. The company has more than 60,000 customers worldwide, including over 60% of the Fortune 100. Synthesia enables organizations to communicate more efficiently and create content faster by producing videos with AI-generated avatars and multilingual customization.
Using the funding for innovation and expansion
With the new funding, Synthesia plans to further develop its product range, hire new talent and expand its presence in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia.

Synthesia has already introduced several innovative features, including personalized avatars, AI-powered video localization and real-time collaboration tools.
New leadership positions strengthen the team
Alongside the funding, Synthesia announced the appointment of Peter Hill as its new Chief Technology Officer. Hill brings extensive experience from his leadership roles at Amazon and Wildfire Studios. This and other strategic hires will help the company continue its global expansion and remain a technology leader.
According to Dealroom data, Synthesia is the second largest generative AI company in Europe by total valuation.
Synthesia's Series D round demonstrates the continued momentum of European AI innovation. In 2024, AI startups accounted for over 25% of European venture capital.

Government welcomes progress in the AI sector
The UK Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology, Peter Kyle, welcomed the development: "Synthesia's success demonstrates how our focus on AI innovation is supporting businesses and driving growth in the technology sector. This investment underlines the confidence international investors have in the UK technology sector."
Synthesia is also a leader in the security sector. The company was the first AI video platform to achieve ISO 42001 certification for responsible use of AI technologies and conducted a publicly documented Red Team test of its platform, supported by NIST and Humane Intelligence.
