The Polish biotech startup Science4Beauty has closed a funding round totaling 1.6 million euros. The round was led by the Polish investor 4growth VC, with additional participation from Hard2beat and several business angels. The company plans to use the capital to drive its international expansion, expand its sales operations, and develop additional bioactive molecules for dermatology and aesthetic medicine.

At the heart of the technology is a proprietary platform for the development and production of recombinant proteins and bioactive peptides. Its most prominent product to date is based on an active ingredient that mimics the mechanism of conotoxins found in the venom of sea snails and is used for the non-invasive reduction of facial wrinkles.

Biotechnology Meets the Beauty Market

Science4Beauty was founded in 2020 by Magdalena Janczewska, Dr. Anna Mazurkiewicz-Pisarek, Alina Mazurkiewicz, and Agata Stefanek. Prof. Tomasz Ciach supports the company as a scientific advisor.

The startup operates its own certified genetic engineering laboratory, where recombinant proteins and bioactive peptides are developed, produced, and purified. The technology is not intended to be limited to individual cosmetic products but rather to serve as a platform for various applications in skincare, dermatology, and medicine. According to the company, its intellectual property is protected by patent applications in ten jurisdictions.

Conotoxin is designed to relax facial muscles

The flagship product line to date is Miorelaxant Magic. It is based on a recombinant conotoxin produced biotechnologically by Science4Beauty. Conotoxins occur naturally in the venom of cone snails. Science4Beauty uses its own recombinant variant of such a bioactive molecule. The active ingredient is intended to relax facial muscles and thereby reduce wrinkles. The company positions the product accordingly as a non-invasive alternative or complement to aesthetic treatments.

According to Science4Beauty, clinical studies showed a reduction in wrinkle depth of up to 48 percent. With regular use, the results of botulinum toxin treatments are also said to be extended by approximately 60 days.

Additional Applications in Development

However, the company’s ambitions extend beyond anti-aging products. Science4Beauty is working on additional applications for its platform.

According to the company, these include solutions for hyperhidrosis—excessive sweating—as well as dermatological applications, such as for rosacea. In addition, the team is exploring new delivery formats, such as microneedle patches.

Science4Beauty is not just a line of ready-made skincare products, but above all a comprehensive and highly scalable biotechnology platform.

The new capital will be used to scale up production and establish distribution channels in international markets.

Five Products and Initial Revenue

Science4Beauty has launched five products to date. According to the company, it generated more than 500,000 Polish złoty—or approximately 115,000 euros—in revenue during the 2025 fiscal year without incurring any marketing expenses.

The business model currently relies on two distribution channels. On the one hand, the company sells its products directly to clinics and providers in the field of aesthetic medicine through its B2B operations. On the other hand, Science4Beauty sells its products directly to end customers via its own online store. The funding will now be used to scale this model internationally.

4growth VC Bets on Platform Potential

Lead investor 4growth VC sees the company’s key value not only in the products already available, but also in the underlying technology.

In addition to the company’s own laboratory, the investor highlights the patent strategy and the clinical validation of the products. In addition, the company’s research and development efforts to date have been supported by more than ten million złoty—equivalent to approximately 2.3 million euros—in grants from the Polish National Center for Research and Development. This has already reduced part of the technological development risk prior to the current venture capital round.

Hard2beat, too, finds the combination of biotechnology and comparatively rapid commercialization particularly interesting. While traditional drug development often requires years of development and approval processes, Science4Beauty is initially targeting the market for science-based skincare and aesthetic applications.

Between Cosmetics and Traditional Biotechnology

It is precisely this positioning that makes the business model interesting. Science4Beauty operates between two industries with very different characteristics: on the one hand, the high-margin and fast-paced beauty market; on the other, the technological barriers to entry posed by biotechnology and protein engineering.

The key question for the company’s future development will be whether its currently relatively small product business can indeed be developed into an internationally scalable biotech platform. With 1.6 million euros in new capital, its own production and research infrastructure, and additional active ingredients in the pipeline, Science4Beauty now aims to take the next step.
