Double-digit million sum for Gitpod

Less than a year after its foundation, General Catalyst joins the Kiel-based programming start-up. A new supervisory board is also joining the company.
Kiel, Germany-based coding platform Gitpod is getting $13 million in additional capital. US venture capitalist General Catalyst is leading the funding round. Existing investors Speed Invest, Crane Venture Partners and Vertex Ventures are also participating again.
Steve Herrod, Managing Director at General Catalyst, also joins the young company's board of directors. Gitpod aims to offer programmers a simple application, automated in parts, to help them build, for example, websites. Founded in 2020, the company says it has already attracted 350,000 users. "Developers today struggle with larger codebases and more complex dependencies, resulting in cluttered environments that hinder productivity and collaboration. Gitpod removes that friction," Steve Herrod told Founderscene
