Guest Column: Gründungsmagnet — A team of five students has taken over Gründungsmagnet, an initiative that aims to connect student startup initiatives in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, raise their profile, and represent their interests in the political arena. Behind the newly elected board are Luca Mittermaier, Alexandra Bethke, Aryan Sahi, Sarah Lobis, and Niklas Klingel. Five minds. One mission. Full of appeal.

Taking Responsibility and Shaping the Future

The impetus for the new board came from a question that preoccupies many young people, especially in Germany: Do we, as the younger generation, even have a future here anymore? The team is convinced that true confidence can only arise when young people take responsibility themselves and take risks. This is exactly what student startup initiatives are already exemplifying today.

Building on a Strong Foundation

Gründungsmagnet is not a new project, but an initiative that has been active since 2012 with many years of experience in connecting student startup scenes. Over the years, it has developed into a reliable anchor for student startup initiatives in the DACH region, upon which the new board now intends to build. At the heart of this is close collaboration between the individual initiatives, which the new team plans to further deepen so that knowledge, contacts, and experience are not confined to individual college towns.

Three Building Blocks for a Strong Network

Specifically, Gründungsmagnet offers three building blocks: networking and knowledge transfer between initiatives, greater reach for projects and events, and political advocacy with decision-makers. While the first building block primarily strengthens personal exchange between the initiatives, political advocacy will ensure in the future that the concerns of student startup initiatives are heard by decision-makers in business and politics.

Growth Both Internally and Externally

The new board has set clear goals for the coming months. The focus is on the targeted expansion of the network to include new member initiatives from across the DACH region. Each additional initiative brings not only new members but also new perspectives and insights. At the same time, the visibility of Gründungsmagnet itself is set to increase significantly. A stronger public presence will ensure that student startup initiatives are recognized as a relevant voice in the startup ecosystem, both by potential members and by partners from business, academia, and politics. The new board is thus deliberately focusing on growth both internally and externally: more initiatives in the network and greater attention to their projects and concerns.

Shaping the Future of the Startup Hub Together

Gründungsmagnet thus sees itself as empowering the younger generation in student startup initiatives and as contributing to the future of Germany as a startup hub. With over ten years of experience and a clear vision for the coming years, the initiative aims to continue growing and bring even more student projects in the DACH region together under one roof.

Let’s strengthen these initiatives together. Because together, we are stronger.
