Logistics start-up Sennder has closed its Series D funding round. This elevates it to the status of a unicorn.

Berlin-based startup Sennder receives $160 million in funding. New investors in the Series D funding include Accel, Lakestar, HV Capital, Project A and Scania. "All existing investors continue to support Sennder, reaffirming their confidence in the company's business model and direction," the company said in a statement.

With this, the logistics startup exceeds the billion-dollar valuation and can now call itself Unicorn. "I am very proud that Sennder's mission and vision has now become a reality," said CEO and co-founder David Nothacker. "We are now an established industry player and on par with traditional companies in the logistics sector."

Founded in 2015, Sennder offers an all-inclusive program for logistics companies. Among other things, software optimizes the routes of vehicles. Up to 10,000 trucks are on the road for Sennder, 800 employees work for the start-up. Ten of Germany's DAX30 companies use Sennder's service.

100 million US dollars are to be spent on further development of the technology and growth, while Sennder plans to spend the remaining 60 million US dollars on rapid expansion.
