8.875 million pounds for Naked Energy
The British cleantech company Naked Energy has closed a funding round of 8.875 million pounds. The investment is led by Great British Energy, which is providing 7.5 million pounds as part of its " Energy Engineered in the UK " program. Co-investor is existing shareholder Barclays Climate Ventures. This also marks Great British Energy’s first major investment in the solar sector.
Production in the UK to Be Expanded
Naked Energy plans to use the fresh capital to build a new production facility in the United Kingdom. This is expected to create up to 40 direct jobs and approximately 100 indirect jobs. At the same time, the company aims to reduce its production costs and drive its international expansion.
Solar Thermal for Industry and Public Buildings
Together with Virtu, Naked Energy is developing a solar thermal technology capable of generating both heat and electricity. Unlike traditional photovoltaic systems, this solution focuses on decarbonizing heat.
The technology is already in use at well-known locations such as the British Library and the All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, where it helps reduce gas consumption and energy costs.
A particular advantage lies in the modules’ flat design: up to 85 percent of the available roof area can be used for energy generation—significantly more than with conventional solar systems.
Energy Security and Domestic Value Creation
Great British Energy views the investment as a key building block for greater energy security and the expansion of a British manufacturing industry for renewable energy. Production in the United Kingdom is also expected to create new export opportunities.
Naked Energy holds more than 20 patents and is already implementing projects in Europe and North America. With the new financing, the company aims to further expand its position in the growing market for renewable heat.
