Biovox receives a mid-six-figure sum

The company develops materials made from bioplastics. They are designed to save CO2 compared to fossil-based plastics.
The Darmstadt-based company Biovox has raised a mid-six-figure sum as part of a pre-seed financing round. Christoph Behn, Silvia Sommer and Dörte Kaschdailis, Moritz Kloss, Anne and Stefan Lemcke, as well as Matthias Knälmann have invested as part of the angel club Better Ventures. In addition, the investor Auxxo and investors from the Frankfurt-Rhine-Main business angel network led by Nikolaus D. Bayer have also invested. "With the fresh capital, we can tackle the expansion of our laboratories and technology. Initially, the first products will go into series production," says co-founder Carmen Rommel.
Engineers Julian Lotz, Vinzenz Nienhaus and Rommel founded Biovox in 2020. The composite materials made from bioplastics that the company develops are intended to be suitable for injection molding, extrusion and 3D printing and are used in the medical, hygiene and food industries. According to the company, most of the plastics are biodegradable. They are also said to not release any persistent microplastics. Compared to conventional plastic production, the technology is said to cause fewer CO2 emissions.
Biovox materials are currently used in medical packaging and hygiene products, for example. In the long term, the aim is to create a product range that covers all medical classification levels. In the future, the company would not even stop at implants that degrade in the body. "The use of conventional plastics and their subsequent incineration is a real climate problem. The EU Commission itself says that the healthcare sector must not shirk its climate targets. We offer a solution to this with low-CO2 bioplastics," says co-founder Julian Lotz.
