DEScycle secures over 10 million euros in funding for critical raw material supply
The British clean tech company DEScycle has raised more than 10 million euros in non-dilutive funding in just ten months. The funds come from several European and British innovation programs and are intended to accelerate the path to industrial scaling of the technology.
In total, the company has now secured around £30 million in capital from equity, funding and strategic partnerships.
Focus on critical and valuable metals
DEScycle is developing a modular infrastructure for recovering critical and valuable metals from e-waste. The aim is to process raw materials closer to their place of origin in future and thus reduce dependence on centralized global supply chains. Especially in times of increasing geopolitical tensions and rising demand for raw materials for electromobility, AI infrastructure, digitalization and industrial applications, security of supply is becoming more and more strategically important.
Broad support from Europe and the UK
The funding is made up of several funding programs:
- 5 million euros from the EU Horizon program
- 2.5 million euros from the EIC Accelerator
- 1.5 million euros from the German SPRIND
- 900,000 pounds from the Innovate UK Investor Partnerships
- 500,000 pounds from a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship
The funding will go towards the further development of the technology platform, the longer operation of the demonstration plant and the expansion of customer and industry tests.
Demonstration plant in Teesside takes shape
The company's demonstration plant is currently under construction in Teesside in the north of England. Commissioning is planned for the second half of 2026. DEScycle wants to use the plant to collect extensive operating data, optimize design decisions and create the basis for the commercial rollout.
The company is also working on digital product passports to document the origin and traceability of recycled metals along the supply chain.
Strategic importance for Europe
The funding underlines the increasing importance of recycling and raw material sovereignty in Europe and the UK.
While critical raw materials have often been sourced from a small number of global regions to date, politicians and industry are increasingly focusing on regional value chains and the circular economy. DEScycle is positioning itself as a provider of a decentralized and scalable alternative to traditional metal processing plants.
Industrial partners already on board
The company has already secured well-known partners for the next development phase. Supporters and validation partners include Mitsubishi, GAP Group and Cisco.
Initial customer tests are already planned with GAP Group and Cisco for 2026.
For DEScycle, it is now a matter of successfully mastering the transition from technology development to industrial implementation. With the demonstration plant, growing industrial demand and significant public funding, the company believes it is well positioned to play an important role in building resilient raw material cycles in Europe.
