88 million euros are flowing into the Berlin fintech. The new main owner wants to internationalize the investment concept.

The Berlin-based start-up Liqid has closed its Series D financing round in the amount of 88 million euros. The main backer is LGT, which is owned by the Liechtenstein Princely House and manages more than €223 billion in private client assets. LGT is also acquiring a majority stake in the Berlin-based fintech and plans to help with its internationalization.

Liqid offers wealth management for private clients who are not super rich. Liqid's investments are otherwise only open to institutional investors, including private equity and VC funds. Liqid's size thus gives investors access to asset classes that are otherwise inaccessible. Currently, the Berlin-based firm manages €1.4 billion.

"Liqid has an impressive growth story and we are convinced that providing professional investment expertise in a digital format - with LIQID's dedicated client focus and commitment to quality - is a promising business model for the future," said Prince Max von und zu Liechtenstein and also Chairman of LGT. "By working with Liqid, LGT is making its investment expertise available to a broader segment of private investors."

The second major investor is London-based Toscafund. Other investors include HQ Trust, the multi-family office of the Harald Quandt family, Project A and Dieter von Holtzbrinck Ventures. The current investment round also includes a secondary component. The existing investors will then sell shares to the Liechtenstein asset managers.
