Munich-based start-up driveblocks secures €2.2 million in seed funding to further develop its Mapless Autonomy Platform for autonomous driving in commercial vehicles.

Munich, Germany - Munich-based technology start-up driveblocks has successfully closed a €2.2 million seed funding round. The round was led by Rethink Ventures and Bayern Kapital, with angel investor Joachim Drees and existing investor Friedrich & Wagner Holding also participating. With this financing, driveblocks mainly intends to further develop its core technology, the Mapless Autonomy Platform.

We are convinced that driveblocks, with its modular software offering, will make a decisive contribution to bringing autonomous driving functions into series production in the commercial vehicle sector.

Philipp Klein, General Partner at Rethink Ventures

The company develops technologies for autonomous driving commercial vehicles, specifically the Mapless Autonomy Platform. This platform relies on modular software components for processing raw data, real-time vehicle environment recognition and sensor data fusion. Unlike map-based approaches, driveblocks enables autonomous driving through perception, i.e., sensor-based recognition of the environment. It is based on Transformer Neural Networks, a proven network architecture.

driveblocks, it is our conviction, will play a decisive role in the transformation of the commercial vehicle sector.

Markus Mrachacz, Managing Director of Bayern Kapital

The goal of driveblocks is to support Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs by enabling them to integrate the software components into their vehicles and work machines to enable safe autonomous driving on both private terrain and public roads. Current customers and development partners include a German Tier 1 supplier and TIER IV, a Japanese autonomous driving specialist. In addition, driveblocks works closely with partners Apex.AI and Schaeffler ByWire.

The founding team of driveblocks, led by Dr. Stephan Matz and Dr. Alexander Wischnewski, relies on machine learning and explainable algorithms for sensor data fusion to ensure the highest performance and safety.

driveblocks has the potential to become the best competitive solution for autonomous driving in commercial vehicles

Bastian Friedrich, owner of Friedrich & Wagner Holding.

Recently, the company successfully tested its Mapless Autonomy Platform on a route between Munich and Bolzano, including the Brenner Pass, in collaboration with pepper motion GmbH. The funds raised will mainly be used for the further development of the Mapless Autonomy Platform and deepening the cooperation with customers and fleet operators. In addition, driveblocks plans to prepare for series certification of its technologies.
