Mynaric appoints president

The laser communications company brings manager Mustafa Veziroglu into the management team. As president, he assumes responsibility for production.

The leadership team of laser communications company Mynaric is getting reinforcements: laser communications manager Mustafa Veziroglu will become president and board member of the Munich-based startup, which was founded in 2009 and has additional locations in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

Vezirolgu will assume operational responsibility for the development, qualification and volume production of the laser communications products and will be based in Munich, according to a company statement. He was previously chief operating officer of SA Photonics, a developer of laser communication systems.

Mynaric CEO Bulent Altan is delighted with the new appointment: "Mustafa Veziroglu has the perfect combination of in-depth industry knowledge and operational management experience," he says. He will be able to lead Mynaric's product portfolio through the next phase of development, in which serial production will be further expanded, he adds.

Mynaric was spun out of the German Aerospace Center in 2009 and specializes in laser communications. With the help of lasers, data can be transmitted between satellites, thereby enabling satellites to communicate with each other and with Earth.

The company has been listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since 2017 and on the U.S. Nasdaq technology exchange since 2021. Investors include Paypal co-founder Peter Thiel and Tinder founder Justin Mateen.

Veziroglu is excited about his new role: "I've always been fascinated by the potential of laser communications to enable tightly meshed communications networks in space, air and other areas for commercial and military applications."
