The difficult situation on the financial markets has also left its mark on the scientific platform Researchgate.

In view of the current economic situation, Researchgate has had to let ten percent of its workforce go. The start-up thus joins a long line of companies that have had to lay off staff in recent months - including unicorns such as Infarm from Berlin and the mobility start-up Tier Mobility.

"This is the hardest decision I've had to make in the fourteen-year history of our company, and I'm sorry to have to say goodbye to people who have contributed so much to our mission and brought us to where we are today," writes Researchgate co-founder and CEO Ijad Madisch on Linkedin. The company now wants to restructure itself and deploy its resources more effectively.

Researchgate is a platform on which scientists can publish their work and network with other researchers. The aim is to provide free access to research results. The start-up is also dependent on investor funding.
