ScrapBees GmbH 4 million euro financing round

Recycling start-up receives millions in funding: ScrapBees wins NRW.BANK as an investor. The company plans to use the capital to expand into new regions.
Düsseldorf/Neuss, 22 January 2025 - NRW.BANK is investing in ScrapBees GmbH, a recycling startup specializing in the recovery of scrap metal. The company, which offers its services under the "SchrottBienen" brand, raised four million euros in a recent financing round. ScrapBees plans to use the capital to expand into other regions and new sectors.
Sustainable transformation and circular economy
"ScrapBees systematizes the collection of scrap metal on construction sites and ensures that the scrap metal is returned to the raw materials cycle as completely as possible," explains Johanna Antonie Tjaden-Schulte, Member of the Managing Board of NRW.BANK. "Such ideas are an important contribution to the sustainable transformation of North Rhine-Westphalia." Financing is provided via the NRW.SeedCap funding program, in which business angels invest on equal terms.
From construction site to recycling yard
With its "all-round carefree service", ScrapBees supports craft businesses directly on construction sites. Employees collect scrap metal, weigh it on site and ensure it is recycled properly. "We help tradespeople with the installation and removal of old and new heating systems and take care of the recycling of all construction site waste," explains co-founder Thilo Hamm. The service is already used by more than 400 companies in the HVAC sector.
Circular economy as a strategy for the future
The potential is huge: the installation of 500,000 heat pumps each year generates around 300 kilograms of scrap metal. ScrapBees wants to serve even more sectors in future and use further technologies to increase efficiency. NRW.BANK's investment has paved the way for further growth.
