Urban Sports Clubs lays off employees

According to a media report, the startup has laid off 15 percent of its workforce.
According to information from Gründerszene the Berlin-based start-up Urban Sport Clubs has unexpectedly laid off 15 percent of its employees. The start-up apparently confirmed the information to Gründerszene. Thus, Urban Sport Clubs is putting 55 employees out the door.
According to the report, the reason given by the start-up is that it has missed its own profitability targets. The company had already been trying to cut costs in recent months. According to information from Gründerszene , it withdrew from the Italian market, among other things.
Urban Sports Clubs had been trimmed for growth for a long time. According to its own data, it was able to increase the number of its members by 51 percent from June 2021 to June 2022. This was probably helped by the entry of ProSiebenSat.1; the broadcaster had invested in the start-up in 2021 and granted it a lot of advertising time on its own platforms. With more than 50 sports, Urban Sports Club offers online courses in addition to face-to-face courses.
