Urban Sports Clubs lays off employees

According to a media report, the start-up has laid off 15 percent of its workforce.
According to information from Gründerszene the Berlin start-up Urban Sport Clubs has unexpectedly laid off 15 percent of its employees. The start-up apparently confirmed the information to Gründerszene. Urban Sport Clubs is therefore laying off 55 employees.
According to the report, the start-up's reason is that it has missed its own profitability targets. The company had already tried to cut costs in recent months. According to information from Gründerszene , it withdrew from the Italian market, among other things.
Urban Sports Clubs had been focused on growth for a long time. According to its own figures, it was able to increase its membership by 51% between June 2021 and June 2022. The entry of ProSiebenSat.1, which invested in the start-up in 2021 and granted it a lot of advertising time on its own platforms, is likely to have helped. With over 50 types of sport, Urban Sports Club also offers online courses in addition to classroom courses.
