Acorai receives EUR 2.3 million grant from the European Commission

Acorai, the Swedish start-up, receives EUR 2.3 million grant from the European Commission to further develop its intracardiac pressure monitoring technology

Helsingborg, Sweden - Swedish start-up Acorai announces that it has successfully received a EUR 2.3 million grant from the European Commission. It has also received an investment offer of 10 million euros from the European Innovation Council (EIC). Acorai is one of the top applicants of the EIC Accelerator who have reached the maximum funding amount.

Acorai's lead product is a non-invasive intracardiac pressure monitoring device that aims to improve the management of heart failure. Following promising results in a Swedish pilot study with 350 patients, the company received Breakthrough Device Designation from the FDA in August 2023. This enables efficient collaboration with FDA experts and accelerated reviews prior to regulatory submission. The €2.3 million grant from the EIC will help Acorai achieve clinical validation and regulatory submissions for commercialization faster.

The EIC Accelerator, part of Horizon Europe, supports start-ups and SMEs with innovative products, services or business models. The aim is to open up new markets in Europe and worldwide, with a special focus on funding medical devices to promote health technologies.

Next Steps

Backed by Bayer, KHP Ventures, Life Science Invest and Golden Angel Investors, Acorai has a strong medical device team and clinical partnerships with leading hospitals worldwide. The company is currently participating in a global clinical validation study with 1200 patients in 11 sites to support FDA submission and approval by 2025.
