Anytype secures $13.4 million for its open-source web builder led by Balderton Capital. The local, privacy-oriented platform enables custom online spaces.

Berlin, Germany - Anytype, a local peer-to-peer and open-source tool, has closed a successful $13.4 million funding round. The round was led by Balderton Capital and backed by Inflection and Square One. Notable angel investors including Trent McConnaghy (Ocean), Jutta Steiner (Polka Dot), Luis Cuendo (Aragon) and Adam Wiggins (Heroku) also participated. This investment follows the launch of the open beta, which has already seen over 75,000 signups.

At a time when digital independence is being curtailed around the world, Anytype enables people to use future-proof software while maintaining their data sovereignty. We are proud to support them in this latest chapter of their business story.

Colin Hanna, Partner at Balderton

Anytype allows users to create their own online rooms where they can organize and link information in a diagram. The spaces are created locally and synchronized over a P2P network, maintaining control over the data.

The tool relies on peer-to-peer technology and offers a user-friendly interface based on no-code principles. Zhanna Sharipova, co-founder of Anytype, emphasized the company's vision of integrating basic digital freedoms such as privacy, freedom of expression and user independence into software architecture.

In our opinion, software should support basic digital freedoms such as privacy, freedom of speech and thought, copyrights, and user:inside independence from monopolistic software providers.

Zhanna Sharipova, co-founder of Anytype

The alpha version of Anytype has already attracted interest from over 30,000 people from various professional fields. The platform has applications ranging from software developers to psychologists and medical professionals. The open beta version is available on various platforms and is expected to attract even more users.

The funding will be invested in further development of the Anytype platform to reach a broader user base. Colin Hanna of Balderton emphasized the importance of Anytype in giving users back control of their information and promoting digital independence. The platform aims to play a supporting role for creators who want to shape the Internet the way they want.
