ARX Robotics secures seed funding to develop autonomous robots for European armed forces and advance robotic warfare

Munich, June 2024 - ARX Robotics, a manufacturer of scalable robotic systems, has closed €9 million in seed funding. Led by the NATO Innovation Fund, this is the largest seed funding for a European defense tech startup. In addition to the NATO Innovation Fund, Discovery Ventures and Project A Ventures also participated in the financing round.

The war in Ukraine has shown that unmanned warfare is the future. ARX has developed a low-cost, modular ground system that can be used for both military and civilian purposes.

ARX Robotics develops autonomous and modular robotic solutions for military and civilian applications. The company's robots are designed to close the gap in unmanned ground systems and prepare European armed forces for robotic warfare.

The focus is on the modular GEREON family of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). These vehicles can be equipped for various military scenarios, such as target practice, transportation, medical evacuation and reconnaissance missions. The robots provide troops with support and protection during critical missions.

The armies of Western democracies are not prepared for robot-assisted warfare. ARX wants to contribute to Europe's technological sovereignty by developing adaptable and robust unmanned systems.

Marc Wietfeld, CEO and co-founder of ARX

The ARX robots can also be used in commercial and humanitarian areas, for example to monitor critical infrastructure or as a means of transportation in disaster areas. The robots are based on a modular platform and advanced software that makes it possible to combine commercially available hardware with artificial intelligence. Software updates are carried out "over-the-air".

The robots can be configured on site without tools in just a few minutes and equipped with various modules. This offers a high degree of flexibility and functionality for various applications. The GEREON robots are already being tested and used by several European armies, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary and Ukraine.

Autonomous robots will change the world in terms of safety and efficiency. The team at ARX has proven that they can develop robust and modular ground robots for various applications.

Uwe Horstmann, Project A Ventures

ARX was founded by former soldiers Marc Wietfeld, Stefan Röbel and Maximilian Wied. The team combines military knowledge, technical skills and entrepreneurial experience. The new funding will be used to expand the team and production capacity in Europe.
