The start-up Spot9 is setting up Bitcoin ATMs together with Hamburg-based Sutor Bank.

Early next year, Spot9 plans to set up several Bitcoin ATMs in Germany. The machines are intended to be an alternative to buying bitcoin online. Users can exchange cash for digital currencies and thus integrate the purchase more easily into everyday life, according to the operators. To do so, they need to register on the company's website. "Spot9's vision is to enable everyone, even without extensive prior knowledge, to use our Bitcoin ATMs," CEO Johannes Gorski said.

The Berlin-based start-up is working with Sutor Bank. The ATMs meet all the requirements of the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). The Sutor bank takes over the observance of the money laundering guideline. Also involved in the project are the Austrian Kurant GmbH, IDNow, Coinfirm and Prosegur. In mid-December, the first test ATM was opened in Berlin.
