Will Streetscooter find a buyer after all?

In 2014, Deutsche Post took over the start-up Streetscooter - but apparently no longer sees any economic prospects for the company. Now there could be a buyer.
As many as four investors have surprisingly announced interest in Streetscooter, reports Manager Magazin
. The start-up, acquired by Swiss Post in 2014, produces small numbers of an e-van that Swiss Post also uses itself - but apparently made a loss of a good 70 million euros a year. Then, at the end of 2020, the Post announced a production stop. Then the former state-owned company wanted to convert the start-up into a pure operator of the existing fleet, when it found no buyer. The prospective buyers now being traded are Düsseldorf-based entrepreneur Nazif Destani, who already has a stake in Aachen-based e-car maker e.GO Mobile through his Dutch fund company ND Group, an American investor group that has been involved in other transactions in the e-mobility space, as well as Chinese supplier Neapco and Chinese carmaker Chery.
What happens next in the event of a Streetscooter purchase is still unclear. The investors apparently have very different plans for the spin-off from RWTH Aachen University. According to Manager Magazin, the car manufacturer Chery wants to relocate production to China in order to reduce costs. Until now, Streetscooter built its models in Düren. According to Manager Magazin
, the three other bidders are considering "further developments, but above all refinement on the capital market."
