Berlin is looking for sustainable start-ups

The state wants to make 17 million euros available for the "Berlin Startup Stipendium".

Berlin is once again awarding the "Berlin Startup Stipendium". The state wants to provide a total of 17 million euros for the funding pot. Applications are open to start-ups whose product is about to be ready for the market.

The focus of the funding is on the topic of sustainability. As examples, the Senate cites the topics of smart city, circular economy, social economy, women in tech, energy efficiency and mobility.

The deadline for applications is May 31, 2021. Founders will be funded for six to twelve months with 2,000 euros per person per month. In total, the Berlin Senate awards 450 scholarships. For the development and completion of the products, the funded start-ups can use technical laboratories and rooms of the universities. The start of the funding period is October 1, 2021, and the program runs until mid-2023.

"The overwhelming response to the calls that have been made so far shows the potential and importance of the startup economy for Berlin," says Senator for Economic Affairs Ramona Pop (The Greens). "I am particularly pleased that among the predominantly technologically oriented startups there are now almost 40 percent female founders."
