Up to 20 million euros series B for end-of-life solar modules - SOLAR MATERIALS
SOLAR MATERIALS is developing a process to recover valuable materials from end-of-life solar modules. These include glass, aluminum, copper and critical raw materials such as silver and silicon.
The focus is on crystalline silicon modules, which make up more than 95% of the global stock. The patented process enables single-origin recovery in industrially usable quality and thus addresses the increasing quantities of old modules in Europe.
Scalable recycling technology for a growing industry
The founders increasingly see solar modules as a source of raw materials rather than a waste product. Tens of thousands of tons of waste material are already being generated in Germany today and this is likely to increase sharply from 2030. The technology has already been industrially validated and is now to be rolled out on a larger scale. At the same time, the company is working on expanding it to other module technologies.
Strategic industrial partner for the circular economy
The EIC Fund and NOVA by Saint-Gobain are new investors in the Series B, joining existing investors bmp Ventures with the IBG Funds and First Imagine!
With NOVA by Saint-Gobain, SOLAR MATERIALS gains a strategic partner from the building materials industry. Recycled glass from the process can already be integrated into float glass production. This creates a closed material cycle between the solar industry and the construction industry.
Capital for scaling in Europe
With Series B, SOLAR MATERIALS aims to accelerate its industrial scaling, establish new sites and strengthen its position in the European market for PV recycling. The aim is to play a key role in the emerging market for solar module recycling.
