Workers from the tech sector apply most frequently for German companies. Europe receives more applications than the USA.

Germany is one of the most popular countries for foreign specialists in the tech industry. This is the result of an analysis by the job platform Relocate.me, which helps people to find work abroad. Germany received the most applications of all - a total of almost 3,300 last year. The Netherlands and Canada follow directly behind. A total of seven of the top 10 countries of choice are in Europe. The USA is only in seventh place.

In particular, the Skilled Immigration Act, which came into force in March 2020, is said to have contributed to the boom, reports Sifted. This meant that even during the coronavirus pandemic, well-trained skilled workers were able to obtain a work permit quickly. For workers in the IT and tech sector, the new law has also made things even easier, as these skilled workers are very rare and popular.

Despite the pandemic, Relocate.me recorded more tech workers wanting to go abroad in 2020 than in the previous year. The platform received 16% of applications from India, followed by Russia (9%) and Nigeria (6%).
