One million euros for Berlin startup goodcarbon

The Hivos-Triodos Fund invests in a CO₂ specialist for the first time and strengthens nature-based solutions that promote biodiversity and local development

Berlin, December 09, 2024 - The Hivos-Triodos development fund has invested in a specialist for carbon sequestration projects for the first time. With a financing round of one million euros, the fund is supporting the Berlin-based company goodcarbon, which specializes in nature-based carbon sequestration solutions. The aim of the collaboration is to drive forward high-quality projects in the Global South that promote climate protection, biodiversity and local development in equal measure.

Projects with global potential

With 20 projects currently under review, a further 27 under consideration and six exclusive original projects, goodcarbon is pursuing ambitious goals. The projects combine effective climate protection measures with social and ecological benefits.

• Gujarat, India: A mangrove reforestation project strengthens nature, sequesters carbon and generates income for the local population.
• Panama: 1,100 hectares of biodiverse forests have been restored, sequestering 100,000 tons of CO₂ and indirectly improving the lives of 4,000 people.
