European Sleeper wants to operate night trains in Germany

The demand for night trains is increasing. A start-up is also reacting to this and wants to stop in the Federal Republic.

A new night train connection from Prague to Brussels is to start next summer. It will be operated by the Dutch start-up European Sleeper. Initially, the trains will run three times a week, later daily. On the way from Prague via Amsterdam to Brussels, stops are planned in the German cities of Bad Schandau, Dresden, Berlin, Hanover and Bad Bentheim, among others.

The new travel option could be particularly attractive for business travellers and politicians. On average, a journey on the night train is expected to cost around 60 euros. A ticket for the seat carriage is to cost less than a reservation in the sleeping compartment. The start-up was able to quickly find investors for the project. Within 15 minutes, European Sleeper sold shares worth 500,000 euros. Another night train connection via Berlin to Warsaw is to be added in December 2022.

"We are wooing travellers who want to travel comfortably through the night in their own compartment and their own bed. Who want to have time to themselves. Night trains are currently still a niche market, but they are a growing market," says European Sleeper founder Elmer van Buuren in an interview with the Editorial Network Germany.
