Infarm becomes a unicorn

By 2030, the company wants to be represented in 20 countries and grow an even wider range of fruit and vegetables. Strategic investors such as the Qatar Investment Authority are now helping the company to grow.
Infarm has received 200 million US dollars. Partners in Equity, Hanaco, Atomico, Lightrock and Bonnier participated in the Series D financing round. The Qatar Investment Authority has invested in the start-up for the first time. The total valuation rose to over one billion US dollars. Infarm now belongs to the ranks of German unicorns.
"This strategic investment will support our rapid global expansion as well as our research and development activities so that we can produce even more plant varieties close to the consumer in Europe, Asia, North America and the Middle East," says Infarm co-founder Erez Galonska. The capital will primarily be used to expand the existing farms in the USA, Canada, Japan and Europe. With the help of the Quatar Investment Authority, Infarm also wants to gain a foothold in Asia and the Middle East. The founders want to open the first farm in Qatar in 2023.
Osnat Michaeli and the brothers Erez and Guy Galonska founded Infarm in Berlin in 2013. The start-up currently grows herbs and vegetables in 17 so-called "Growing Centers". The food is then sold in supermarkets such as Aldi Süd, Edeka, Kaufland and Metro. The company currently offers 75 different types of herbs and vegetables. In the coming year, Infarm would like to expand its range by 40 more plants. These include mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, peas and strawberries.
