The Leipzig-based start-up is developing software for automatic parking. This convinces Continental, among others.

Leipzig-based start-up Kopernikus Automotive raises three million euros as a follow-on investment. According to the start-up, the automotive supplier Continental, which already joined in August 2021, and TGFS Technologiegründerfons Sachsen have invested. It is the next success story for the eastern German company, having landed pilot projects from Volkswagen and Ford in the past. COO Tim von Törne said in light of the new round of funding, "This capital increase ensures that we can complete our series development and safety certification for one of the first truly driverless applications we will see on an everyday basis."

The start-up specializes in programming an application that will allow automatic parking and maneuvering. No one is supposed to be behind the wheel then. Instead, cars will be monitored and controlled by computer, for example in parking garages or logistics centers. In a new test facility in Wolfsburg, Kopernikus will be allowed to test its application together with Volkswagen's Cariad software group.

Stefan Jenzowsky, CEO of Kopernikus Automotive, expressed his gratitude on the occasion of the financing round: "It is not easy for a start-up to enter the automotive industry, especially with an AI-based driving function," he said. He continued, "That's why we are very grateful to all partners and car manufacturers, especially here in Germany, who have worked with us on this new technology over the past years and enabled us in various working groups and constellations to try out, test and implement Automated Valet Parking for the first time."
