Health insurance companies cover costs for ovularing

An algorithm to combat the unfulfilled desire to have children: this is what the start-up Vivosens Medical promises with its Ovularing. Four health insurance companies now cover the costs.

Good news for everyone who wants to have children: Ovularing, developed by the company Vivosens Medical, will be covered by four health insurance companies. Interested parties have to pay an initial fee of 99 euros, all other costs are covered by the health insurance companies. The ring can very accurately detect the stages of a woman's cycle and her fertility health, so treatment for an unfulfilled desire to have children can be carried out individually and efficiently. The measurement is evaluated by an algorithm, which doctors can view in order to continue treatment via telemedicine. Currently, more than 3,000 women use ovularing in German-speaking countries.

Since 2011, the Leipzig-based start-up has been dedicated to research and development in the fields of gynecology, reproductive and sexual medicine. In this context, the Ovularing is the first product in the field of women's health. The underwriting came about through participation in Healthy Hub 2019, where Vivosens Medical won as one of five startups. The competition is dedicated to innovative solutions for health.

Participating insurance companies are BIG direkt gesund, Hanseatische Krankenkasse (HEK), IKK Südwest and mhplus. In addition, the cooperation is accompanied by a study dedicated to the efficiency of ovularing. The evaluation is being carried out by the Institute for Health Research Berlin (InGef).
