Miele pulls the rip cord on Otto Wilde Grillers

The family-owned company is temporarily halting production of the high-tech G32 grill. Those who have already pre-ordered will have to wait until 2022. What's going on?

Actually, the high-tech grill G32 of the Düsseldorf start-up "Otto Wilde Grillers" was supposed to be the flagship and the best seller. A grill that could be controlled via smartphone. The idea was so good that the family-owned company Miele secured a majority stake in the company in the spring.

Now, however, Miele apparently has to pull the ripcord and stop production of the high-tech grill for the time being, as reported by the Rheinische Post . Apparently, the grill needs to be reworked in several places, for example to prevent the "operating elements from overheating under extreme conditions", according to the report. Because the grill from the series production probably does not meet the standards of Miele, as the RP writes.

For the fans of the start-up, who had given the young company via crowdfunding on Kickstarter about five million euros just a year ago, this means long waiting times. Their investment of 999 euros was supposed to bring them a grill in the fall of 2020, but now it could possibly be spring 2022 - at the earliest.

The reason given by Miele and Otto Wilder Grillers is, on the one hand, the corona pandemic, which made production difficult, especially in Asia. On the other hand, the great interest of the Kickstarter community simply overwhelmed the young start-up.
