Seattle, August 2024 - Mudstack, a leading provider of version control and asset management tools for the games industry, today announced the successful completion of a $4 million funding round. The capital will be used to further develop the platform, grow the team and expand the customer base.
New CEO with industry experience
The funding also announces the appointment of James Gwertzman as CEO. James was previously co-founder and CEO of PlayFab and has extensive experience in building tools and infrastructure for game development.
I'm excited to be leading Mudstack at a pivotal time and working with this talented team to realize a vision for an 'operating system for game studios'.
James Gwertzman, CEO Mudstack
Growth and first big customers
Mudstack recently signed its first two enterprise customers, Metacore and Paradox Studios. The collaboration lays the foundation for further growth and positions Mudstack as an indispensable partner for optimizing asset management and workflow in the games industry.
Mudstack has saved us a lot of time that we would otherwise spend managing game assets. It's also so easy that artists can use it without training, which makes it easier for us to roll it out to more of our internal studios.
Petter Lundh, Managing Art Director at Paradox Studios
Venture clienting with Mudstack is proving to be extremely successful, particularly through early collaboration with major clients Metacore and Paradox Studios. These strategic partnerships not only open up direct revenue streams for the startup, but also provide valuable insights and use cases that accelerate the further development of the platform. With direct feedback from these established game developers, Mudstack can tailor its solutions to the needs of large studios.
Funding for scaling and expansion
The funding round was led by Anthos Capital, with participation from Khosla Ventures, A16Z GAMES, Pioneer Square Labs and Hyperplane. "The complexity in game development continues to increase, and Mudstack is perfectly positioned to become the leading solution for teams that need robust and intuitive tools," said Zack Zaharis, Partner at Anthos Capital.
