The fintech startup Plinto has closed a pre-seed funding round totaling 2.9 million euros. The two European venture capital firms People Ventures and Emblem are participating in the round. The company plans to use the fresh capital to accelerate the development of its AI-based financial platform and tap into new markets.

Plinto aims to transform traditional financial controlling. While finance departments traditionally rely on periodic analyses, retrospective audits, and centralized processes, the startup’s technology is designed to enable continuous monitoring and processing of financial transactions.

To this end, Plinto is developing a platform that uses artificial intelligence to review thousands of transactions daily and execute automated actions based on them. The company relies on so-called AI agents, which are designed to coordinate control processes and make financial information available company-wide.

Financial controlling is intended to take place in real time

At the heart of the business model is the idea that financial controls will be more deeply integrated into a company’s operational processes in the future. Instead of taking place exclusively in specialized controlling departments, they are intended to occur right where business processes and transactions originate.

Plinto aims to close the time gap that has often existed between operational decisions and their financial evaluation. Through the continuous processing of transaction data, companies should be able to react more quickly to variances and manage their financial processes more efficiently.

According to the company, the startup has already developed a platform that can process and verify thousands of transactions daily and trigger appropriate actions. Plinto did not provide specific details regarding the number of customers, revenue, or efficiency gains achieved to date in connection with the funding round.

The technology thus targets a sector in which companies are increasingly seeking ways to automate recurring administrative tasks and make financial data available more quickly for operational decisions.

Investors Back Experienced Founding Team

With People Ventures and Emblem, Plinto has secured two investors who specialize in early-stage technology companies.

People Ventures is a Copenhagen-based Nordic early-stage investor that supports its portfolio companies particularly in the areas of finance, market entry, and sales. Its portfolio includes Pandektes, Hosted.ai, and After Technologies, among others.

Magnus Stagsted, a partner at People Ventures, cites the founding team’s experience and their approach of applying financial controls right from the outset of a transaction as the reasons behind the investment decision. He emphasizes that it is crucial to give companies the opportunity to establish control mechanisms tailored to their individual needs.

Emblem also highlights the founders’ track record. The European venture capital firm operates in Paris, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and London, among other locations, and has invested in companies such as Lovable, Pillar, and Pivot.

Guillaume Durao, founder and general partner of Emblem, particularly highlights the Plinto team’s connection to the software company Peakon. The founders of Plinto previously played a key role in building Peakon, which was later acquired by Workday for more than $700 million.

This experience in processing complex and fragmented corporate information will now be incorporated into the development of the new financial platform.

With the 2.9 million euros raised, Plinto plans to advance its product development and expand internationally. Whether the concept of continuous, AI-powered financial controlling can gain widespread acceptance will likely depend, in particular, on its integration into existing enterprise systems and the reliability of automated control processes.
