Contigo Energie Holding Takes a Stake in Bremen-Based EnergyTech Startup fleXality
The Bremen-based EnergyTech company fleXality has gained a new strategic investor in Contigo Energie Holding. As part of a capital increase, the holding company is taking a significant stake in the startup, which was founded in 2022. Together with the B2B energy supplier Contigo Energie AG and the electricity trading specialist Impuls Energy Trading, the goal is to develop an integrated solution for industrial energy flexibility. The goal is to help medium-sized industrial companies, in particular, reduce their energy costs through intelligent plant control and by taking advantage of opportunities in the electricity market. The size of the investment has not been disclosed.
Capital Increase Brings Strategic Investor On Board
With Contigo Energie Holding’s investment, fleXality becomes part of a group of companies that connects various sectors of industrial energy supply. The transaction is being carried out via a capital increase. As a result, the holding company becomes a key strategic shareholder in the Bremen-based technology firm. The companies have not disclosed details regarding the amount invested, the company valuation, or the exact size of the stake.

The additional capital is to be invested in the further development of the AI-based optimization platform fEnOMS, new areas of application, and joint customer projects. For fleXality, the partnership opens up the opportunity, in particular, to link its own technology more closely with energy procurement, electricity trading, and the marketing of flexible power plants.
Three Companies Pool Their Expertise
Within the consortium, the participating companies assume different roles. fleXality provides the software for the intelligent control of energy systems within a company’s site. Contigo Energie AG is responsible for energy supply and procurement. Cologne-based Impuls Energy Trading GmbH complements the offering with short-term electricity trading, direct marketing, and the energy-related management of flexible generation assets. This is intended to bring technical optimization and economic marketing closer together. For industrial customers, this could reduce the effort required to coordinate different providers and systems. However, the individual services remain available independently of one another. fleXality customers can continue to work with their existing energy suppliers and direct marketers.
Unutilized Flexibility in Industrial Facilities
Many energy-intensive companies already have technical systems whose electricity consumption can be shifted over time within certain limits. These include, for example, industrial refrigeration systems, battery storage, and certain production processes. Adjusting the operation of such systems to electricity prices and operational requirements can yield economic benefits. In practice, however, technical processes, energy supply contracts, grid fees, and marketing opportunities are often considered separately. This is precisely where fleXality comes in. The company aims not only to use existing flexibility for internal energy optimization but also to economically leverage the opportunities offered by the electricity market. Co-founder and CEO Dyke Wilke sees this as an approach to tapping into previously untapped savings potential in industrial energy systems.
AI Platform fEnOMS Manages Complex Energy Systems
The technological foundation is the fEnOMS platform developed by fleXality. The software processes existing plant and process data and combines it with information on energy prices, supply contracts, grid fees, and other economic conditions. Using AI-based optimization methods, various energy systems are controlled as an integrated system. These may include refrigeration systems, battery storage, power generation facilities, and other flexible electricity consumers. The platform takes into account the operational requirements of each location. For example, production and cooling processes must continue to function reliably even when electricity consumption is adjusted over time. Based on this, fEnOMS can shift energy usage to periods when economic conditions are more favorable. Additionally, the platform provides information on energy costs, savings achieved, and further optimization opportunities.
From Refrigeration Optimization to Industrial Energy Management
fleXality’s technology has its origins in the optimization of energy-intensive refrigeration systems. Under certain conditions, such systems are suitable for flexible control because cooling processes can offer temporal flexibility without exceeding the required temperatures. The company has now extended this approach to more comprehensive energy systems. In doing so, it considers various consumers, storage systems, and generation facilities collectively to coordinate their operation. The focus is on energy-intensive industrial and logistics companies seeking to reduce their energy costs and CO₂ emissions. According to the company, the platform can account for both individual locations and multiple facilities within a single company.
First Joint Battery Storage Project in Development
Collaboration within the new consortium is not intended to take place exclusively at the strategic level. According to fleXality, a joint battery storage project is already in development. This project is intended to serve as a technical proof of concept for integrating plant control, energy procurement, and electricity market trading. In principle, battery storage systems can be used to store electricity during off-peak hours and release it again when demand is higher or market conditions change. The companies have not yet disclosed what specific services the joint project is intended to provide, how large the storage system will be, or when it is scheduled to go online. No specific details are available yet regarding the expected economic results either.
Partnership Aims to Accelerate Growth
For Contigo Energie Holding, fleXality adds a technological component to its existing activities in the energy business. Gerhard Gaedecke, Chairman of the Holding’s Supervisory Board, sees particular potential for a more cost-effective energy supply to businesses in the intelligent integration of various technologies. The investment is intended to support fleXality’s growth and expand the capabilities of the existing group of companies. Founded in 2022, the startup was already honored in 2025 with the Bremen Startup Award and the German Sustainability Award. With its new strategic investor, fleXality now aims to accelerate the development of its platform and tap into additional industrial applications. Whether and to what extent the planned cost savings can be realized depends on the technical requirements, energy contracts, and the respective market conditions of the customers. At the same time, this investment demonstrates how software providers specializing in industrial energy optimization are increasingly partnering with companies in the energy supply and electricity trading sectors to turn technical flexibility into economic value.
