Skylo secures 30 million US dollars for global expansion of direct-to-device satellite service

With the support of new and existing investors, Skylo expands its direct-to-device (D2D) satellite coverage to additional regions, including Brazil, Australia and New Zealand
Mountain View, February 27, 2025 - Satellite communications company Skylo has closed an oversubscribed $30 million funding round. The round was led by NGP Capital, with participation from Westly Group and existing investors including Intel Capital, BMW i Ventures, Samsung Catalyst Fund and Next47. With the new funding, Skylo will further expand its direct-to-device (D2D) satellite service, which enables mobile devices, IoT devices and vehicles to connect directly via satellite.
Expanding network coverage to new markets
Skylo is the world's largest standards-based direct-to-device satellite provider, working with leading mobile operators and technology partners. The new funding will enable the company to expand its commercial coverage to Brazil, Australia and New Zealand - in addition to existing markets such as the US, including Alaska, Hawaii and US territories. The expansion is in partnership with Viasat, Inc (NASDAQ: VSAT), a global provider of satellite communications.
Our mission is to maximize the accessibility of connectivity worldwide. Skylo stands for ubiquitous mobile communications - and with this funding we can expand our global reach even faster.
Parthsarathi Trivedi, CEO Skylo
Seamless connectivity for smartphones and IoT devices
Despite advances in mobile communications, around 85% of the earth's surface lacks reliable network coverage. Skylo closes this gap by enabling commercially available smartphones and IoT devices to automatically switch between cellular and satellite connectivity. Instead of relying on cell towers, Skylo uses existing satellite networks to provide connectivity in remote regions - without the need for special hardware.
Deployment in crisis areas and industries
Over the past six months, Skylo has already been used in the US during natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires to provide emergency communications to those affected. In addition to the consumer market, Skylo also offers solutions for industries such as agriculture, shipping, logistics and mining to reliably connect machines and work processes.
Skylo has established itself as a leading provider in the rapidly growing direct-to-device satellite market. With millions of connected devices worldwide and a scalable, standardized technology stack, Skylo is democratizing access to global mobile connectivity."

Presentation at MWC Barcelona Skylo will showcase its latest developments in SOS via satellite, SMS via satellite and AI-powered communication via satellite at MWC Barcelona 2025. Visitors can experience the technology live at the GSMA Pavilion (Hall 4, Stand 4F30) from March 3-6, 2025.
