Together, the companies want to invest 200 million euros in renewable energies. The focus is particularly on smart meters.

Hamburg-based Aquila Capital and Frankfurt-based start-up Bullfinch are forming a joint investment vehicle together. This will see the two investment houses jointly invest in digital assets across Europe. "The partnership is intended to have such an immediate impact on the investment landscape in the renewable energy sector. On the one hand, Aquila Capital contributes to this with its leading investment experience in real assets and renewable energy," it said in a statement.

Aquila Capital focuses on investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, infrastructure, residential real estate, green logistics, and forestry and agriculture. The company was founded in 2001 by Dieter Rentsch and Roman Rosslenbroich and currently manages €12.5 billion for institutional investors worldwide. Bullfinch was founded in 2019 by Robin Haack. The investment house focuses on energy generation, clean mobility, energy storage and smart buildings. Bullfinch leads partnerships with institutional investors and energy hardware providers.

In the announcement, the two investors cite the need for up to €25 trillion in property upgrades across Europe to meet climate targets. "The Joint Investment Vehicle aims to become a relevant pure player in energy efficiency and targets an investment volume of more than 200 million euros over the next two years." Smart metering (intelligent electricity meters) in particular is the focus of the Joint Investment.
