Over 900,000 registered caregivers. AI-powered recruiting wins over an international growth investor.

The international investment firm Ardian has acquired a majority stake in the Berlin-based health tech platform Pflegia. The transaction is intended to accelerate the company’s further growth in Germany and Europe and to drive the development of AI-powered recruiting solutions for the healthcare sector. Details of the purchase price were not disclosed.

Pflegia was founded in 2019 and specializes in the digital placement of healthcare workers. Unlike traditional job boards, the company uses an AI-powered reverse-recruiting model: Applicants enter their qualifications and preferences, while a proprietary matching algorithm identifies suitable employers.

Market Leader in Digital Healthcare Recruitment

According to the company, Pflegia has developed into the leading digital recruiting platform for the German healthcare market within just a few years. The company now has a database of more than 900,000 registered professionals and collaborates with over 10,000 care facilities in Germany.

In 2024, Pflegia expanded its offerings with Praxia, a platform for placing staff in medical and dental practices, thereby tapping into another segment of the healthcare sector.

Ardian Focuses on European Expansion

Ardian’s investment marks the beginning of the next phase of growth for the Berlin-based company. The investor aims to support the founding team, particularly in further developing the platform, expanding AI technology, scaling the organization, and pursuing international expansion.

At the same time, Ardian is further expanding its activities in the European growth segment and underscoring its focus on technology-driven growth companies.

Founders Remain on Board

Pflegia was founded by Lennart Steuer, Felix Westphal, and Masoud Shahryari. The founding team will remain on board and plans to work with Ardian to roll out the business model to additional European markets.

This investment once again demonstrates the sustained high interest of international growth capital investors in AI-powered platforms in the healthcare sector—particularly where digital solutions can make a concrete contribution to addressing the shortage of skilled workers.
