Revolution in surgery: the Munich-based MedTech start-up plans to automate instrument changes in laparoscopic surgery and thus reduce operating times.

Munich, September 16, 2024 - Munich-based MedTech startup Symphera has successfully completed a seed financing round of 2.4 million euros. The financing round was led by High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), with participation from Bayern Kapital, CARMA FUND, UnternehmerTUM, Stern Stewart Ventures, IRCAD from Strasbourg and business angels from the medical sector.

Innovation in laparoscopic surgery

Symphera develops innovative surgical systems that automate instrument changes during laparoscopic procedures. At the touch of a button, surgeons can seamlessly switch between instruments, eliminating the need for manual changes and reducing operating time. This system simplifies the surgical workflow and improves patient care in the long term. Symphera works closely with leading experts and renowned medical institutions in the field of minimally invasive surgery.

With its surgical tool, Symphera addresses the entire spectrum of laparoscopy, from improving the standard workflow to robot-assisted applications. This makes Symphera a strong venture case in a highly interesting area.

Dr. Jan Engels, Investment Manager at HTGF

Founded in 2023 from the Technical University of Munich and UnternehmerTUM, Symphera originated at the University Hospital Basel, where co-founder Dr. Conrad Heid worked as a laparoscopic surgeon. Symphera's vision is to simplify the surgical workflow and enable better post-operative results for patients.

Investing in the future of surgery

The investment will be used to further develop the product range and conduct preclinical studies to bring the technology towards market readiness. These steps are crucial for the certification and future distribution of Symphera's technology, which is set to revolutionize the surgical workflow.

With its all-in-one instrument, the Symphera team has developed a solution that enables shorter operations. The existing prototype has convinced us and makes Symphera an exciting investment in the medtech sector.
