Why did you start your start-up, which problem do you address and how do you solve it?

Teeth are a fragile thing - not only in childhood: Our teeth are constantly changing, whether due to age, stress or dental surgery. Often the healthy initial situation is lost and long-term consequences such as craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD syndrome) can occur.

With its patented process, Denton Systems has succeeded in digitally "freezing" the dentition and thus preserving its original condition: The life-long dental concept saves patients a lot of time in the waiting room; doctors can treat patients more precisely and individually.

How did you get the idea of founding your start-up?

As dentists, medical computer scientists and dental technicians in the team, we have worked a lot with functional therapy, digital imaging methods and e.g. digital milling machines for the production of dental prostheses. One thing became clearer and clearer: No matter what efforts are made and no matter how much modern technology is used: The original, defect-free prosthesis system can never be restored to 100 percent. Both the dentist and the dental technician "work" on the prosthesis system by, among other things, modelling and grinding fillings and crowns, determining bite heights and widths and performing splint therapies. The healthy initial situation of the teeth is lost - with far-reaching consequences.

What is special about your business model, what do you do differently?

By digitally "freezing" the entire dental system, combining imaging techniques and making all data available via the cloud, it is now possible for the first time to reconstruct a patient's healthy, individual initial tooth system regardless of location, time and teeth.
In this way, long-term consequences of defect-oriented dentistry such as CMD syndrome and the need to consult other specialists can be avoided.

Why are you on Startbase?

We appreciate the implementation concept of Startbase. National and international networking, capital procurement and scaling are central aspects of Start-ups. We see very good opportunities in the joint realization of these goals.

What have you learned so far?

How much an open-minded team means that they are not only ready for innovation and success, but also ready to take risks and stand up for each other. That is very rare.

What would you recommend to other founders?

As a founder, you should never lose sight of your goal, but you should also not work towards it with blinkers on. As in science, there is often new evidence that needs constant reflection, both internally and externally.
Everyone can see the success of well-known companies, but the fact that the road to success has been accompanied by many failures is often ignored. Entrepreneurs sometimes need a lot of patience and must realize that they cannot achieve everything on their own.

How did you two meet?

Most of us are connected through science projects related to medical informatics at the University of Applied Sciences Brandenburg.

Where do you see yourselves in 3 years?

Until then, we want to have done more educational work and implemented the first break in defektorientierte Zahnheilkunde. Our lifelong and preventive dental concept is embedded in various selective contracts with health insurance companies or supplementary dental insurance companies and is moving towards standard care.

Do you still have a social life despite having started up?

Absolutely - quite a few of us have already experienced the startup life. It's also a bit of a lifestyle, so that social events now often take place at networking events or trade fairs and movies become pitching events. We also have a two-week routine of doing things as a team.

Who is the mastermind on your team and what is his superpower?

Micha is the mastermind of the team, he is bursting with new and brilliant ideas. He would love to implement a new project every day. The superpower of the team is to keep Micha concentrated and to direct his never ending intrinsic motivation in the right direction.
