Amazon promotes sustainable start-ups and targets unicorn potential

Munich, March 4, 2024 - The Amazon Sustainability Accelerator enters its third year and opens its doors to applications from European startups. In cooperation with EIT Climate-KIC and Founders Intelligence, a subsidiary of Accenture, the funding program supports companies in the fields of consumer goods, circular economy, building solutions and packaging.

Successes since 2022: increased sales and investments

Since its launch in 2022, the Accelerator has supported more than 25 European start-ups, including 12 in Germany. These companies have seen a 700% increase in turnover and raised over 18 million euros in investment.

The aim of the program is to provide founders with skills to scale their businesses while creating a positive environmental impact. Startups operating in the above categories can apply until April 5, 2024 (for circular economy, building solutions and packaging) or until July 31, 2024 (for consumer goods).

Support for start-ups: scholarships and AWS credits

Participating companies receive a grant and credits for the use of Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud services. One example from last year is FUNQ', a German and Spanish startup that produces 100% natural syrup and has raised €2 million in capital since participating in the Accelerator.

In 2024, the Accelerator is introducing the ClimateTech Pilot Challenge, which is aimed at advanced startups. These companies can participate in a pilot project during a four-week program that is directly linked to Amazon and can generate between €50,000 and €2 million in revenue.

Applications will be evaluated by a team of experts, including representatives from Amazon, EIT Climate-KIC and Founders Intelligence.
