Prague-based startup Apify secures EUR 2.8 million for growth and development of its web data extraction platform; investment from J&T Ventures and Reflex Capital to strengthen marketing, product development and developer community

Prague, April 15, 2024 - Prague-based startup Apify, a web data extraction platform, has received an investment of EUR 2.8 million. In 2023, the company achieved a turnover of EUR 6.7 million and a profit of almost EUR 1 million. Compared to the previous year, it recorded revenue growth of 80% in the last quarter of 2023. Investors include venture capital fund J&T Ventures, led by Adam Kočík and Martin Kešner, and existing investor Reflex Capital, led by Ondřej Fryc. The funds will be used primarily for marketing, product development and the growth of the developer community. As part of the investment round, the ESOP pool for employee incentives was increased to a share of around 15%.

Our current goal is to demonstrate our ability to convert capital into economically efficient growth, attract new customers and scale our business.

Jan Čurn, founder and CEO of Apify.

The company wants to expand its marketing activities and developer community development to reach more developers and companies worldwide. The long-term goal is to create the world's largest marketplace where companies and developers can find ready-made cloud automation solutions created and sold by other developers.

Honza and Jakub have already built a global business with a monthly recurring revenue of several hundred thousand dollars, which is now skyrocketing. We see the investment as an opportunity to further support this growth

Apify's web scraping platform enables companies to extract data from websites and enrich data for AI. It can also automate any web-based workflow that a human performs manually in a web browser and then run it at scale in the cloud. One of the company's key services is an open marketplace of so-called Actors - cloud-based programs that can be easily run, shared, integrated and built upon. Apify offers over 1,500 of these Actors.

The company was founded in 2015 by Jan Čurn and Jakub Balada, who met while studying computer science at the UK Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and recognized the potential to make a profitable business out of programming as well as entertainment. They recognized a demand for software that could extract specific data from websites and created a platform with the corresponding tools. Their current clients include Siemens, Intercom, Microsoft, T-Mobile and Accenture.
