The Norwegian mapping startup Atlas.co wants to rethink maps from the ground up and has received pre-seed funding of 2 million US dollars. The mapping market could be redefined by a user-friendly, collaborative tool

Oslo, Norway November 14, 2024 - Norwegian startup Atlas.co has closed $2 million in pre-seed funding led by climate initiative-focused venture capital fund Pale Blue Dot. The round is backed by prominent tech investors including Ben Lang, an early employee at Notion, and Andreas Klinger, former CTO and co-founder at Product Hunt.

Easy map creation

Atlas.co, founded in 2021, offers a user-friendly, cloud-based platform for collaborative map creation. This platform relies on real-time features and an intuitive user interface that clearly stands out from the complex and often static mapping solutions of traditional GIS systems such as Esri. Atlas.co enables users to create interactive and data-driven maps that update in real time, providing a flexible, data-driven basis for decision-making in diverse areas such as environmental research, urban planning and energy management.

We have rethought the potential of map creation and developed a tool that facilitates access to geodata. With Atlas.co, teams can work on maps in real time, using maps as a medium for communication and insight.

Fredrik Moger, CEO of Atlas.co

Inspired by Figma and Notion

The platform offers numerous functions that enable modern, data-driven map creation and clearly present complex data. Ben Lang, former Community Lead at Notion, commented: "Atlas.co enables new digital creators to use geospatial data as a storytelling tool and clearly visualize complex data."

Atlas.co plans to invest the new funding in further developing the platform and expanding the development team to implement new features and expand the use of maps as a means of communicating data. Joel Larsson from Pale Blue Dot explained: "With Atlas.co, we want to promote the use of geodata for important causes such as climate protection and create a platform that makes data usable for society."
