Amazon invests $4 billion in Anthropic: New partnership drives AI development from hardware to cloud

San Francisco, November 2024 - Amazon Web Services (AWS) is deepening its partnership with Anthropic with an additional $4 billion investment, bringing Amazon's total commitment to the company to $8 billion. AWS will remain a minority investor and become Anthropic's primary cloud and training partner.

Advanced hardware and software development

Anthropic is working closely with AWS and Annapurna Labs to further develop Trainium hardware and AWS Neuron software. This collaboration includes the development of custom kernels to maximize the efficiency of Trainium chips. Anthropic's Claude models have become an important infrastructure for companies such as Pfizer, Intuit and the European Union via Amazon Bedrock. Among other things, the models enable more efficient medical research, more comprehensible tax returns and fast, precise document searches.
