Cellbricks wins "The Spark" digital award

The company has developed a 3D printing process for tissue and organs.
The Berlin-based start-up Cellbrick has won the German digital prize "The Spark". Management consultants McKinsey & Company and Handelsblatt awarded the prize for the seventh time in a row. This year, the prize honored companies that aim to transform the healthcare and medical industries with technological innovations.
The start-up Cellbricks, founded by Lutz Kloke, took first place. The company aims to solve the problem of organ shortage with 3D printing. Using a combination of human and artificial tissues, Cellbrick initially wants to produce breast implants and soon organs. In second place comes start-up Caresyntax, a platform for surgical data that aims to make operations smarter. Third place goes to Lindera. The start-up offers motion analysis via app. It aims to calculate seniors' risk of falling, for example.
"High-tech can fundamentally revolutionize the health and medical industry and improve medical performance for our benefit," says Fabian Billing, head of Germany at McKinsey & Company. "We all need to work together to make our tech revolutionaries successful in the international ecosystem."
