RWTH Aachen students record most exits

Graduates of the university were involved in more exits than those of any other university. This means that the Aachen university has overtaken WHU.

RWTH Aachen University is not only the "best university for startups", it is also the university whose graduates are responsible for the most exits. This is the conclusion reached by the communications agency Tonka in its "Exit Monitor 2021".

Tonka counted a total of 155 exits in 2021, involving 313 founders. 5.4 percent of these young entrepreneurs had previously attended RWTH. Second place was taken by the Technical University of Munich (4.5 percent), while Otto Beisheim School of Management (3.2 percent), also known as the Private University of Applied Sciences for Management and Law (WHU), came in third. WHU from Rhineland-Palatinate had led the ranking for the past three years, but now had to relinquish the top position.

Tonka also analyzed the founders' fields of study and degrees. The most suitable course of study for exiting - at least that is the impression based on the study - is Business Administration, with 13 percent of the 313 respondents having this degree. It is followed by Computer Science (five percent), Economics (4.6 percent) and Business Administration (3.8 percent). So while the technical universities have made up ground, economists continue to dominate among the subjects.
