The French leisure and tourism group Compagnie des Alpes (CDA) is investing in the German padel operator PadelCity and will initially acquire a 33.9 percent stake in the company. CDA is investing a total of 20 million euros in the stake, 12 million euros of which will be contributed as part of a capital increase.

In addition, CDA has secured options to increase its stake to approximately 75 percent starting in early 2028 and to fully acquire PadelCity by the end of 2030.

European Market Leader in Padel and Soccer Emerges

With this investment, Compagnie des Alpes aims to build the leading provider of padel and five-a-side soccer in Europe, together with Urban Group, which it acquired in 2024.

Together, the two companies are expected to generate annual revenue of approximately 150 million euros and EBITDA of just under 65 million euros by 2029.

PadelCity Is Growing Rapidly

Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Munich, the company is considered one of the leading operators of padel facilities in Germany. PadelCity currently operates 24 facilities. By the end of 2026, the network is expected to grow to around 40 locations with a total of 350 courts.

In addition to Germany, the company is already expanding into Austria and Poland. The German market, in particular, is considered attractive, as the number of padel facilities there is still relatively low by international standards and offers significant growth potential.

PadelCity expects annualized revenue of around 50 million euros by the end of 2026.

Founders to Remain On Board Long-Term

PadelCity was founded by Jonathan Sierck, Dr. Sebastian Weil, and Dr. Markus Englert. All three founders will remain on board as shareholders until at least the end of 2030 and are expected to continue actively supporting the company’s expansion.

The group of shareholders also includes prominent figures from the world of soccer, such as Hansi Flick, Mats Hummels, and Joshua Kimmich.

Strategic Expansion in Germany

For Compagnie des Alpes, this investment represents another step in the expansion of its leisure business in Europe. Following the acquisition of the Belantis amusement park in Germany, the group is now increasingly focusing on the booming market for urban recreational sports. The combination of Urban Group and PadelCity creates a platform that is set to benefit from the growing popularity of padel in Europe and position itself as a market leader in the long term.

Subdued Outlook for the Investor

The investment in PadelCity comes at a time when Compagnie des Alpes itself is facing short-term challenges. Although the leisure group increased its revenue to 1.16 billion euros in the first nine months of the 2025/26 fiscal year, driven by a record season at its ski resorts, At the same time, however, exceptionally poor weather conditions weighed on the theme park business. The company subsequently lowered its forecast for growth in gross operating profit (EBO). This adjustment was poorly received by the stock market: Following the announcement of the figures, the stock temporarily lost 9.5 percent. Against this backdrop, the investment in PadelCity underscores the Group’s long-term strategy of broadening its business through high-growth leisure and sports offerings and tapping into new sources of revenue outside the traditional amusement park business.
